WELCOME TO SIMPLE PSYCH

Welcome to Simple Psych! I’d like to share my reason for creating this blog.

Throughout my psychiatric residency, I had to make several new diagnoses for patients to tie their symptoms into a neat little bundle. Sadly, during many visits there was not enough time to fully explain my patient’s diagnosis to him or her. It seemed like the more I explained, the more questions would arise. I would often end up telling patients to go to reputable sources online and research the diagnosis themselves. Unfortunately, as we know, one click leads to another and pretty soon you’re on a forum where someone is talking about their uncle’s best friend’s sister’s horror story related to such-and-such diagnosis. Many patients often came away from their search confused, with a negative, incorrect, and/or incomplete understanding of their diagnosis, as well as the treatments that would best help them.

Which brings me to this blog! It is my opportunity to more fully provide the resources I’d love to share during each visit. I will also be posting about general mental health related topics that do not necessarily have to do with particular diagnoses. If you have follow-up questions, please submit them, and I will do my best to clarify or expand. Your questions will likely keep my blog alive with valuable content that will help you and many others!

Please note that this blog was created to be used in addition to professional treatment, whether that involves meds, therapy, both, or neither. I suggest that you consult a professional to determine what is best for your unique situation. However, I also believe in empowering you by helping you become well-informed about your condition, and some of the top evidence-based treatments that are out there.
